Free Motion Feather

As recommended by Leah Day of the Free Motion Quilting Project, I try to do a little free motion play every day. My latest effort involved a feather.

I quilted a square, stitched a feather with a row of echo stitching, then drew cross-hatched lines in the remaining white space. I filled those with lines, experimenting with various textures and directions. This experimental design will definitely find its way to a quilt some day.

  1. It is so relaxing to take a sandwich and just quilt, and its such great practice. Your square is really nice.

  2. I love the combination of cross hatching and the feather. Looks great!

  3. Very pretty Susan... Love the feathers and the background stitching...

  4. The crosshatch really makes the feather POP! looks great!
